When you contact us, either by a visit to our office, telephone or e-mail, our first concern is to ensure that we provide you with a caring and professional service that fully meets, and hopefully exceeds, your expectations.
We will answer any questions that you may have, both honestly and in as much detail as possible, so that you understand what will happen, ensuring that you are provided with exactly the service you require and expect.
52 High Street has been the base for five generations of funeral directors, beginning in 1861 with Thomas Edwards. In 1965 it became Northwood and Sons.
The present owners, Andrew and Karen Woodhouse decided to keep the name and build upon the reputation earned by the last owner - Gordon Northwood and family.
Gordon generously offered to give Andrew and Karen the benefit of his long experience, local knowledge and practical help whenever needed. This offer was readily accepted and he continues to be involved with all local funerals.
We can offer - a traditional funeral using our own motor hearse, with the very latest Jaguar limousines provided by one of Shropshire’s finest Funeral Carriage Masters (if required). You will have a choice of coffin from our traditional range with a service at church or crematorium followed by burial or cremation. We are able to assist with the choice of flowers at extremely competitive prices and can suggest suitable venues and caterers for post funeral receptions.
If you would prefer a less traditional funeral we can arrange many alternatives from a range of hearses which include a bus, lorry, motorbike, Morris Traveller, or even a white VW Camper Van. If relatives or bearers requiring transport would prefer not to use traditional limousines, we can offer a choice of alternative vehicles which include two matching silver Renault Grand Espace vehicles which can carry up to a total of twelve passengers, a Jaguar XJR executive saloon car or a classic Jaguar MKII (as driven by Inspector Morse).
Alternative coffins can be chosen from a large and comprehensive range which include willow, sea-grass, cardboard or picture coffins.
Woodland and Green burial sites are also available, both locally and nationally.
We are members of the National Association of Funeral Directors and adhere strictly to their code of conduct.
